Foundations of Trauma-Informed Care

This foundational training unfolds over four dynamic 3-hour sessions. Participants will deepen their trauma-informed approach by examining how trauma influences behavior and overall well-being, while gaining essential principles and practical strategies to cultivate safety, build trust, and promote resilience.

Thinking for a Change Facilitator's Training

This immersive 32-hour, five-day in-person training equips participants with the knowledge and skills to effectively deliver the Thinking for a Change 4.0 (T4C) curriculum. Rooted in cognitive restructuring, social skills development, and problem-solving strategies, T4C is an evidence-based program designed to support behavioral change in justice-involved individuals. Join the nearly 500 facilitators trained by The Pace Institute and make a lasting impact in your community!

What to Expect

  • Understand the T4C framework – Learn the structure, objectives, and key components of this evidence-based cognitive behavioral change program.

  • Develop facilitation techniques – Practice leading discussions, managing group dynamics, and guiding participants through lessons.

  • Learn to help participants recognize and shift harmful thought patterns using cognitive restructuring strategies.

  • Develop the skills to guide participants in applying effective interpersonal and communication strategies.

  • Develop strategies to help participants approach problem-solving constructively and make informed decisions.

  • Participate in role-plays, group exercises, and discussions to reinforce facilitation skills.

Foundations of Motivational Interviewing

Spread over four days, this training is designed to be highly engaging, with opportunities for discussion, skill-building, and real-world application. Participants will deepen their understanding of MI’s spirit, core skills, and strategies to evoke change talk while navigating ambivalence. Through guided practice, role-plays, and reflective exercises, attendees will develop practical techniques to foster collaboration, enhance client motivation, and support meaningful change in various professional settings, including counseling and social services.

What to Expect

  • Understand the spirit and purpose of Motivational Interviewing (MI) and how it supports engagement, motivation, and behavior change.

  • Develop practical skills in MI's core techniques—Open Questions, Affirmations, Reflections, and Summarizing (OARS).

  • Identify and respond to ambivalence by evoking change talk and reducing sustain talk.

  • Practice collaborative, client-centered conversations that support autonomy and self-efficacy.

  • Apply MI strategies to build trust and enhance motivation across diverse professional settings.

This training includes:

  • Live, interactive instruction delivered across four sessions

  • A downloadable training workbook with key concepts, practice tools, and reflection prompts

  • Opportunities for guided practice, skill-building, and peer connection

  • Practical, evidence-based content grounded in the spirit and core skills of Motivational Interviewing

This is a space to strengthen your communication skills, deepen your empathy, and build confidence in using MI strategies in real-life conversations that support change.

These trainings are not pre-approved for continuing education credits. However, many licensing boards allow professionals to submit training hours for consideration, even if the course is not pre-approved. I recommend checking with your state licensing board to see if they will accept the training you are interested in attending, toward your continuing education requirements. The Pace Institute is happy to provide any necessary documentation, such as an agenda or certificate of completion, to support your submission.
